Dining guide

Restaurants at The Star Sydney, read before you reserve

At The Star Sydney, dining ranges from Sokyo and BLACK Bar & Grill to casual rooms, café stops and the food court. You are not choosing from a single hotel restaurant. You are planning around two hotels, Darling Harbour, the light rail and, perhaps, a spa appointment or theatre time.

How the dining sits within the property

The Star Sydney is a mixed hotel, dining, theatre and casino address at 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009, Sydney, Australia. For a stay, the useful thing is to think of the restaurants as part of the wider campus rather than as an add-on to one hotel. You may be sleeping at The Darling, staying at The Star Grand, coming in by light rail, or using dinner to frame a spa afternoon.

The published restaurant list covers Signature Dining, Casual Dining, Harbourside, Level 1, Level G, Restaurant bars, the Main Gaming Floor and The Star café court. That spread matters. Sokyo and BLACK Bar & Grill sit under Signature Dining. Cucina Porto is listed as Casual Dining. Rumble is on Level G, Harbourside. Harvest Buffet is on Level 1. Eat Ozzo is listed as Harbourside on Pirrama Road, although the dining listing we could reach does not publish a cuisine text for it.

The Star Sydney's casino licence remains suspended (since 2022). NICC (25 September 2026): the Minister amended the Casino Control Regulation 2019 to extend the term of the manager, Nick Weeks, until 30 June 2027; 'Mr Weeks will continue to hold the casino licence for The Star Pty Limited ... allowing the casino to continue operating gaming facilities while its licence remains suspended.'

This page is about eating and staying, not online casino activity. Australia bans online casino play; The Star Sydney’s casino is a physical venue only. If your evening includes venues on the Main Gaming Floor, entry requirements apply at the venue.

The restaurants, by mood and timing

Sokyo is published as “Contemporary Japanese cuisine” and sits under Signature Dining. It is the cleanest fit if you want dinner to be the centre of the evening, especially if your room request is for The Darling and you are keeping movement to a minimum after arrival. Sokyo Bar is also listed among the restaurant bars, so it may suit a dinner built around a slower start, subject to the venue’s own availability.

BLACK Bar & Grill is also Signature Dining, described by the venue as “A classic steakhouse featuring wood-fired favourites”. If you prefer a more traditional dinner structure, this is the name to know. The separate bar listing includes Black Bar, which is useful when you are joining another table, meeting before a show, or leaving room for a later walk along Darling Harbour.

Cucina Porto is the Italian option, described as “simple, honest Italian food”. Its Casual Dining label makes it feel less ceremonial on the page than the two Signature Dining rooms, and better suited to an earlier dinner after check-in or a second-night meal when you have already used the pool, spa or harbour walk during the day.

Harvest Buffet is the most clearly time-published restaurant in the facts available to us: breakfast 7–11am, lunch 12–3pm, dinner 5–10pm daily. The venue describes buffet choices including weekend seafood, carvery, pizza, pasta, curries and a dessert bar. If you want fewer decisions, or you are travelling with different appetites, it is the most straightforward listing to understand before you arrive.

Casual stops, harbourside meals and the main floor

Rumble is listed on Level G, Harbourside, with “A modern contemporary take on South East Asian cuisine with a Thai influence”. It is the clearest choice in the published list for a spiced, shared-table meal near the water side of the property. Eat Ozzo is also listed as Harbourside, on Pirrama Road, but the dining listing we reached does not give a cuisine description, so it is better treated as a location to check directly rather than a menu promise.

G&Tea is included under Restaurant bars and described as a bar/café, with the venue’s wording “the perfect tonic day or night”. The dining list does not publish a cuisine text for it. Because it is also named on the bar list, it may be better read as a flexible meeting point than as a formal restaurant in your plan. For a fuller evening sequence, see our separate guide to the bars.

Several dining names are on the Main Gaming Floor. Fat Noodle is described as “Fun, funky and aromatic Asian street food”. Food Quarter is listed as a casual café. 24/7 Sports Bar serves pub favourites including burgers, wings and ribs, and is described as open 24/7. These are practical listings, but they sit in an area where the venue’s casino entry rules may affect access.

The Star café court gathers Pyrmont Fish Co for sushi, sashimi, fish and chips; Mighty Bird for chicken; Double Chin Eats; Adanos Grill for kebabs and gözleme; Antidote for coffee and tea; Pulse Milk Bar; Gong Cha Tea and Hot Star Chicken; and Gelato Messina. It is the most informal part of the food offer, useful for a quick bite before the light rail or after a walk around Darling Harbour.

A two-night dining plan

For a two-night stay, begin with the room, not the restaurant. If you are arriving later in the day, ask first for the hotel and room category you want, then build dinner around how much energy you will have after travel. The published check-in time for both The Darling and The Star Grand is 3:00pm, and check-out is 11:00am. If you want to compare bedding categories before you ask, use our guide to rooms and suites.

On night one, keep the plan close. If dinner is the main event, choose between Sokyo and BLACK Bar & Grill, then add a bar only if the timing suits. If you would rather arrive gently, Cucina Porto or Rumble may make more sense. For a spa-led stay, check treatment availability first with The Darling Spa; spa hours vary between official pages, so confirm directly with the spa before you place dinner around it.

On the first morning, the simplest published breakfast window is Harvest Buffet, from 7–11am. If you are staying for a pool morning, note that The Darling publishes a 25m outdoor pool on Level 5, open 8am–8pm daily and heated to 26 degrees. The Star Grand page publishes its Level 5 gym and pool as open from 6am–9pm daily, with the harbour-view pool heated to 26 degrees. Our pool guide keeps those details separate.

For night two, choose the opposite rhythm. If the first night was Signature Dining, make the second a harbour-side or casual meal. If you kept the first night simple, reserve the second for Sokyo or BLACK Bar & Grill. If you are pairing dinner with Sydney Lyric, check the theatre timing before booking a table; the theatre is within The Star and has its own box office arrangements.

Before you book a table

The official dining page is the right place to check current menus, reservation openings and any venue changes: The Star Sydney dining. We use the names, cuisine descriptions and venue labels published by The Star, but we do not reproduce changing menus or prices unless they are supplied as stable facts. They are not in the facts available for this page.

When you send a room or spa request through this site, include your preferred dinner names and whether the meal is tied to an arrival time, spa booking or theatre night. We are not the hotel and we do not confirm restaurant tables inside the page text, but the request gives the desk a clear picture of the stay you are trying to shape.

For transport, the L1 Dulwich Hill line stops at The Star, and ferries stop at Pyrmont Bay Wharf, described by Sydney Lyric as a five-minute walk. If you are coming only for dinner, public transport may be simpler than parking; if you are staying overnight, read getting there by light rail and ferry before deciding how to arrive.
