Rooms guide

Rooms and suites across The Darling and The Star Grand

You are choosing between two hotels at one Pyrmont address: The Darling and The Star Grand. The official pages publish category names, check-in and check-out times, pools and gyms, but they do not publish a room count on the pages we could reach. Use this guide to ask clearly for a room, suite, harbour side or high floor without treating any preference as guaranteed.

Two hotel styles at one address

The Star Sydney sits at 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009, Sydney, Australia. On site, the accommodation is split between The Darling and The Star Grand, with apartment-style suites also published under The Star Grand Residences. The official hotel pages use category names rather than a single simple room ladder, so it helps to begin with the hotel you want, then the category, then any position request.

The Darling publishes The Darling Rooms, Jewel Suites, Adored Suites, Stellar Suites and Penthouses. Its spa is on Level 2, and the pool is published as a 25m outdoor pool on Level 5, open 8am–8pm daily and heated to 26 degrees. The Darling Gym is also published on Level 2 within the spa, open 24 hours daily, with under-16s not permitted. If your stay is shaped around treatments, rest and a quieter hotel mood, start there, then read the separate page on The Darling Spa before you send a request.

The Star Grand publishes Superior King Room, Superior Twin Room, Premium Suite, Royal Suites, Star Suites and Penthouses. Its gym and pool are published on Level 5, with the pool described as harbour-view, heated to 26 degrees; The Star Grand Gym and Pool is open from 6am–9pm daily, and under-16s are to be accompanied. The Star Sydney's casino licence remains suspended (since 2022).

What the hotel publishes, and what it does not

The useful official detail is in the category names and facilities. The less useful gap is inventory. On the pages we could reach, the hotel does not publish a current room count that we can use for this guide, so we do not print one. Third-party numbers can date quickly or conflict, especially where hotel rooms, residences and suites are counted differently.

Check-in and check-out are consistent across the published hotel pages we reviewed: check-in is 3:00pm and check-out is 11:00am, with express check-out available. If you arrive early, ask whether luggage storage or early access can be considered; do not build your day around it unless the hotel confirms it. If you are leaving late, ask for a late check-out request, but expect it to depend on the date and room category.

The official hotel hub is at The Star Sydney hotels and spa. We link to it for verification and direct booking, while this site is a separate request desk. If you want a fuller read of arrival, rooms, spa, dining and transport together, use the full review before completing the form.

How to ask for harbour side or a high floor

For a room request, use careful language. Ask for “a harbour-side room if available” or “a higher floor if available”, rather than treating the view or level as part of the booking unless the hotel confirms it in writing. This matters because the published category names do not all state view, aspect or floor. A category can tell you the broad room type; it does not, by itself, promise outlook.

If the outlook matters more than the room size, say that first. For example: “We would prefer The Star Grand, with a harbour-side room if available; a high floor is secondary.” If quiet and spa access matter more, you might write: “We would prefer The Darling, with a calm room position if available, and we are considering a spa treatment.” If you need twin beds, name Superior Twin Room at The Star Grand rather than asking generally for a twin.

The strongest requests are specific but flexible. Include your dates, number of adults, preferred hotel, preferred category and the one or two requests that would shape the stay. Add whether you are planning dinner at the restaurants, a swim at the pool, or a show night, because those details help the desk ask the right follow-up questions. Final allocation remains with the hotel.

Rooms with spa, pool and evening plans

If the stay is about rest, The Darling makes the shortest written connection to The Darling Spa. The spa is published on Level 2 of The Darling, with 11 treatment rooms plus two couples suites, a steam room, Darling Spa jacuzzi, boutique gym and relaxation/tea lounge. Official spa hours conflict between pages, so hours vary and you should check with the spa before fixing your day around a treatment time.

If the stay is about a show, dinner or Darling Harbour, either hotel can work. The choice becomes more about category, bedding and how you want to move through the building. The Star Grand gives you Superior King Room and Superior Twin Room options at the entry category level, then suites and penthouses. The Darling begins with The Darling Rooms, then moves through Jewel, Adored and Stellar suites to penthouses.

For a stay that includes light rail, ferry or parking, keep the room request separate from the transport plan. The L1 Dulwich Hill line stops at The Star, ferries run to Pyrmont Bay Wharf, and the official parking information includes car park entrances and a 2.0m vehicle height limit. The transport notes sit on getting there by light rail and ferry; your room form should still focus on dates, hotel, category and preferences.
