The Pyrmont Stay

Arrival notes

Getting to The Star Sydney by train, light rail, ferry or car

The Star Sydney sits at 80 Pyrmont Street, a precinct of two hotels, restaurants, a spa and a theatre on the Pyrmont side of Darling Harbour. The gentlest arrival depends on what you are carrying and when you land. Every route below ends at the same Google Maps pin, so you can check the live journey before you set off.

The address, and how the precinct reads on arrival

The published address is 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009, Sydney, Australia. On the ground, you are arriving at a large mixed-use property rather than a single hotel doorway. The two hotels, The Darling and The Star Grand, sit within The Star Sydney precinct, with dining, bars, the spa, theatre and event spaces nearby.

If you are coming for a room, check which hotel name is on your confirmation before you travel. The Darling and The Star Grand are both on site, but they are not the same hotel. The published room categories differ, the pool and gym information is published separately for each, and the most comfortable arrival point may depend on where you are staying. Our rooms and suites guide is the place to compare those categories before you make a request.

The official getting-here page is useful for the latest transport and parking details, particularly because parking rates are published there and can change. For current venue directions, use The Star Sydney’s official getting here and parking page.

The Star Sydney’s casino licence remains suspended (since 2022). NICC (25 September 2026): the Minister amended the Casino Control Regulation 2019 to extend the term of the manager, Nick Weeks, until 30 June 2027; “Mr Weeks will continue to hold the casino licence for The Star Pty Limited ... allowing the casino to continue operating gaming facilities while its licence remains suspended.”

From Sydney Airport (SYD)

Sydney Airport, code SYD, is close enough that the transfer need not dominate your first day. The airport itself puts the city 13 minutes away by train, with Airport Link services running roughly every 10 minutes. At the international terminal you reach the station from the arrivals level, past Arrivals Hall A; at the domestic terminals, T2 and T3, it is also off the arrivals level. You can pay with an Opal card or simply tap on with a Visa, Mastercard or Amex. Transport for NSW notes that the airport stations add a station access fee to the ordinary fare, so the train is not quite the price of a city ride.

The train brings you to Central. From there, The Star's own page says the light rail runs via Darling Harbour to The Star, seven days a week, and the L1 Dulwich Hill line stops at The Star itself. With one soft bag this is an easy, unhurried way in; the first route link above shows Google's live version of the whole journey, platform changes included.

If you are landing late, carrying a case and a garment bag, or simply want the door-to-door version, take a taxi. Sydney Airport says taxi ranks are at the front of every terminal, each with its own sheltered rank, and describes the CBD as a short, roughly 20-minute ride. Rideshare drivers meet you at the airport's priority pick-up area; at T1 International, UberX uses Rank C, about 20 metres outside Arrivals Hall B. Ask for 80 Pyrmont Street, or name The Darling or The Star Grand if you want the right entrance.

Light rail and ferry are the cleanest public-transport notes

The light rail note is the most direct one published: “The L1 Dulwich Hill line stops at The Star”, as stated by Sydney Lyric, while The Star’s own page says the light rail runs from Central Station via Darling Harbour to The Star, 7 days. That makes it a simple choice if you are arriving from Central or moving between the city and Pyrmont without a car.

The ferry note is also clear. Sydney Lyric states that “The F4 Pyrmont Bay service stops at Pyrmont Bay Wharf and is a five-minute walk”. The Star’s own page describes ferries from Circular Quay to wharves a few minutes’ walk away. If you are travelling light, that can make for a softer arrival: water, a short walk, and then the hotel precinct rather than a road approach.

On foot from the city centre, Sydney Lyric, the theatre inside The Star, puts itself about a 20-minute walk from Town Hall Station; that is a pleasant way in on a mild evening without bags. Buses are published too. The Star lists route 389, North Bondi–Pyrmont. Sydney Lyric lists 389 and 501. If you are building an evening around the Sydney Lyric theatre, check the current timetable before you leave rather than relying on a standing pattern.

One published service is not currently an option. Star Express Coach routes STAR33 Bankstown, STAR99 Cabramatta/Fairfield and STAR44 Parramatta are listed as “temporarily suspended”. That wording matters. It is not a route to plan around unless the official page later shows it has returned.

Driving and parking: the official limits matter

From the airport by car, Sydney Airport suggests about 25 minutes to the city in light traffic, and by secondary sources Southern Cross Drive carries you north from the airport towards the Eastern Distributor and the CBD; from there the driving link above sees you across to Pyrmont. The Star publishes two car park entrances: Main Entrance 55 Pirrama Road, Pyrmont, and Members Entrance 2 Edward Street, Pyrmont. It also publishes a firm height note: No parking for vehicles over 2.0m. If you are bringing a taller vehicle, roof pod, van or oversized car, check this before you leave home. The page also notes valet, including an oversized vehicle rate, but this guide does not copy parking figures because the official page publishes the current rates.

Rates are published per 6-hour period, with a hotel-guest flat rate, daily maximum, motorbike flat rate and valet. Because those figures belong to the current operational page, use the official link rather than an old note copied into a travel plan.

Bicycle parking is listed on Level P3 via Pirrama Rd. Uber pick-up zones are published as Pyrmont Street, at the Star Grand entrance, and Harbourside, at the Pyrmont Bay exit. Those names are useful when you are leaving after dinner or after a show, as a driver may ask which side of the precinct you mean.

If you are staying for restaurants, bars or a spa appointment, allow time to park, walk through the precinct and find the right internal entrance. The property is one address, but not one small lobby.

A softer first evening

If your stay is built around a treatment at The Darling Spa, a swim in the pool or dinner, keep the arrival leg plain and leave the planning for the next morning. Tell the desk in your request how you expect to arrive, whether that is a late flight, the light rail from Central, or a car that needs to clear the 2.0 m height limit, and the reply can include the entrance and timing notes that suit your dates. Transport details on this page were checked on 29 October 2026.
