The pool at The Star Sydney, read before you pack

You come here for a swim between appointments, a quiet hour after check-in, or a spa day that includes time outside. The published details are useful but specific: the named 25-metre outdoor pool belongs to The Darling, it sits on Level 5, and access is described differently across the hotel and spa pages.

The 25-metre pool on Level 5

The Darling publishes a 25m outdoor pool on Level 5, open 8am–8pm daily and heated to 26 degrees. That is the clearest pool listing attached to the hotel pages we could reach. It gives you the essential frame: morning laps are possible within the published hours, late swims need to finish before the evening close, and the water is heated rather than left to the season.

The Darling Spa page also refers to an outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi on level 5 for spa guests. Read that wording closely. It means pool time can form part of a spa visit, but the page does not turn the pool into a public facility. If you are not staying in-house and want a spa treatment with time by the water, ask the spa to confirm access when you book. Spa hours vary between official pages, so check directly with The Darling Spa before you plan the day.

The setting is practical rather than complicated. The pool is on the same published level as the outdoor spa-guest pool reference, while the spa itself is on Level 2. If your stay is built around pool time, keep your request precise: name the hotel, your dates, and whether you are planning a room stay, a spa booking, or both.

Who may use it, as published

The published wording we found connects the 25-metre pool to The Darling. It also says spa guests have access to the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi on Level 5. The pages do not publish a broader visitor-access policy in the material we could reach, and they do not state that the pool is open to the general public.

That distinction matters if you are choosing between the two hotels. The Darling’s page gives the most exact description: 25 metres, Level 5, daily hours and temperature. The Star Grand page separately publishes a harbour-view pool heated to 26 degrees, with under-16s accompanied, and says The Star Grand Gym and Pool is open from 6am – 9pm daily on Level 5. For room categories across both hotels, see our rooms and suites guide before you decide which side of the property suits your stay.

The Star Sydney's casino licence remains suspended (since 2022). NICC (25 September 2026): the Minister amended the Casino Control Regulation 2019 to extend the term of the manager, Nick Weeks, until 30 June 2027; 'Mr Weeks will continue to hold the casino licence for The Star Pty Limited ... allowing the casino to continue operating gaming facilities while its licence remains suspended.'

The gym details to note

The Darling Gym is published as being on Level 2 within the spa. Its hours are clear: open 24 hours daily. The same listing says under-16s are not permitted. If you like to swim and train on the same stay, that split is worth noting: The Darling’s pool is on Level 5, while The Darling Gym is within the spa area on Level 2.

The Star Grand has its own published wording: The Star Grand Gym and Pool is open from 6am – 9pm daily, also on Level 5, with the pool heated to 26 degrees and under-16s accompanied. The Star Grand page does not publish the same 25-metre wording in the facts we could reach. If pool length is important to you, The Darling is the hotel with the published 25-metre detail.

For a stay that combines movement, treatment time and dinner, keep the order simple. Swim within the pool hours, allow enough time to move between Level 5 and the spa on Level 2, then hold restaurant plans for later in the day. Our restaurants page lists the published venues if you want to make the evening easy.

How to plan a pool-centred stay

A pool stay here is best planned around access rather than assumptions. If you are staying at The Darling, ask for The Darling specifically and note that the 25-metre outdoor pool is part of what draws you there. If you are considering The Star Grand, ask separately about its Level 5 pool and gym, because the published wording and hours differ.

If you are booking a spa visit without a room, confirm with the spa that your treatment includes access to the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi on Level 5 on the date you want. The spa information we found includes a conflict between official pages on opening hours, so do not build a tight morning or evening plan without checking first.

Getting there is straightforward in the published transport notes: light rail runs from Central Station via Darling Harbour to The Star, and ferries from Circular Quay stop at wharves a few minutes’ walk away. Our guide to getting there by light rail and ferry covers the transport and parking details that are published. If you want fresh air before or after your swim, Darling Harbour is the natural walk from Pyrmont.
