Sydney Lyric and the Event Centre, read before you book a show night

What the official pages publish

Sydney Lyric is the clearest of the two published venues. The official material says Sydney Lyric opened in 1997, overlooks Pyrmont Bay and has four seating configurations: 1350, 1500, 1750 and 2000 seats. Its address is Pirrama Road, Pyrmont NSW 2009, within The Star. The official Sydney Lyric site also lists a Ticketmaster box office open Mon–Fri 9am–5pm and two hours before each show.

For current productions, session times and ticketing, use the official Sydney Lyric theatre site rather than a hotel page. The programme changes, and this guide does not republish show names unless they are in the facts we can verify.

The Foundry Theatre is described on the Sydney Lyric material as “An intimate theatre nestled within The Sydney Lyric”; a capacity is not stated in the facts we could reach. The Sydney Event Centre, at 80 Pyrmont Street, is described as a “convention, exhibition and event gala space”. The Star’s pages say it is managed by Foundation Theatres, and official event enquiries sit through the Sydney Event Centre site. Its capacity is not published on the official pages available to us; a 3,000-seat figure appears only by secondary sources, so we do not treat it as a confirmed venue figure here.

How a show night works with a room upstairs

The value of staying on site is not drama; it is the removal of small frictions. You can check in at The Darling or The Star Grand, leave bags in the room, take dinner nearby and walk to Sydney Lyric without planning a separate transfer after the performance. The Darling publishes The Darling Rooms, Jewel Suites, Adored Suites, Stellar Suites and Penthouses. The Star Grand publishes Superior King Room, Superior Twin Room, Premium Suite, Royal Suites, Star Suites and Penthouses. The Star Grand Residences are also published as apartment-style suites, including one-, two- and three-bedroom categories. The hotel pages we could reach do not publish a verified total room count across the precinct, so this site does not print one.

For a theatre-led stay, ask for the room category you prefer and note the performance time in the request. If you want dinner before the show, the restaurants guide lists the official dining names and cuisines we can verify. If you prefer a calmer start the next day, pair the night with The Darling Spa; its published hours vary between official pages, so check directly with the spa before you anchor plans around a treatment time.

Arrival, dinner and the last few metres

Public transport is straightforward on the published facts. Sydney Lyric states that the L1 Dulwich Hill line stops at The Star. The Star’s own transport page says light rail runs from Central Station via Darling Harbour to The Star, seven days. Sydney Lyric also states that the F4 Pyrmont Bay ferry stops at Pyrmont Bay Wharf and is a five-minute walk. Buses listed in the official material include route 389, and Sydney Lyric also lists 501.

If you are driving, the published car park entrances are Main Entrance, 55 Pirrama Road, Pyrmont, and Members Entrance, 2 Edward Street, Pyrmont. The official parking page says there is no parking for vehicles over 2.0m. Bicycle parking is on Level P3 via Pirrama Road, and Uber pick-up zones are published for Pyrmont Street at the Star Grand entrance and Harbourside at the Pyrmont Bay exit. The Star Express Coach services are published as temporarily suspended.

A simple evening might be: arrive by light rail, check in, eat early, attend the performance, then walk back through the precinct to your room. Event Centre notes and the casino setting

The Sydney Event Centre is part of the same address, but it works differently from a theatre ticket. Official pages frame it as a convention, exhibition and event gala space, with bookings through event-specific enquiry channels rather than a public performance calendar. If you are attending a conference, gala or private event there, use the organiser’s instructions for entry time, room name and registration details, then treat the hotel booking as a separate stay request.

The Star Sydney's casino licence remains suspended (since 2022). NICC (25 September 2026): the Minister amended the Casino Control Regulation 2019 to extend the term of the manager, Nick Weeks, until 30 June 2027; 'Mr Weeks will continue to hold the casino licence for The Star Pty Limited ... allowing the casino to continue operating gaming facilities while its licence remains suspended.'
